In case you didn’t know…
Roman Reigns has main evented the past three WrestleMania’s, with the first time being back at WrestleMania 31 when he faced off against Brock Lesnar for the first time. Reigns won The Royal Rumble and the right to face Lesnar three years ago, but it seems that he’s gone down a different path this year.
Reigns and Lesnar are set to collide with the Universal Championship on the line and over the past few months, this is the match that has had the most excitement surrounding it. Reigns would equal Hulk Hogan’s record with four consecutive WrestleMania main events, if he’s able to main event this year, with matches between The Undertaker and John Cena and even AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura both seen as candidates for the final match on the night.
The heart of the matter
There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the main event at this year’s WrestleMania but seems that according to Paul Heyman on his recent interview with Digital Spy, it will definitely be Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar once again rounding off the show. (Transcript via Ringsidenews)
Heyman even voiced his opinions on the other matches that could have been part of the main event this year.
What’s next?
Lesnar is set to be on Raw on Monday night from Atlanta as part of the final show before WrestleMania. This will be the final build between Reigns and Lesnar before their showdown at WrestleMania next weekend.
Author’s take
Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar’s build towards their match at this year’s WrestleMania has been intriguing and Heyman is definitely right about the hype surrounding it. WWE has used the outside rumors about Lesnar and his UFC return to their advantage and now it’s left the WWE Universe wondering what the outcome of this match will actually be. Lesnar’s contract comes to an end soon and this could be his final show for WWE so anything could happen on the night.
