Apple marked its footing into the smartphone market with its first iPhone, unveiled in 2007. This smartphone had quad-band GSM cellular connectivity, GPRS, and EDGE support for data transfer.

Next came the iPhone 3G in 2008. This second-generation smartphone boast of assisted GPS, 3G data and tri-band UMTS/HSDPA.

Then came iPhone 3GS in 2009, which was the touchscreen third generation iPhone. This phone had voice control, 7.2 Mbit/s HSDPA downloading, and supported Apple’s iOS operating system.

The iPhone 4 was the fourth generation touchscreen 3G smartphone, launched in 2010. Sleek and stylish, this phone supported Apple’s iOS operating system, Apple A4 processor. It had 512 MB of eDRAM, 3.5-inch (89 mm) LED backlit liquid crystal display with a 960×640 pixel resolution.

The latest and powerful so far, iPhone 4S is the fifth in line, which was launched in 2011. This smartphone has voice recognition system- Siri, cloud storage service named iCloud. With a new 8-megapixel camera, this phone has a dual core A5 processor with a CMOS back-illuminated sensor and a fast f/2.4 lens.
