Just as Friday the 13th: The Game was beginning to pick up steam thanks to stability updates, fixes, and new content, the strong arm of the law put its momentum to a screeching halt. The lawsuit that essentially killed the game is fairly complex, but the main takeaway was that all future content updates would be cancelled permanently - in the words of Gun Media founder and president Wes Keltner, “not even a new tree or rock” could be added.

Understandably, fans of the game, and especially those who backed the game back in its Kickstarter phase, want answers. On the other hand, it’s no secret that ongoing legal proceedings can get pretty sticky and that those involved need to be as careful as possible. After explaining as much to their loyal followers in a forum post, Keltner provided some valuable, and lawyer-approved, insights into Friday the 13th: The Game’s behind-the-scenes situation.

Right off the bat, he rips off the band-aid and reiterates that the prospect of future content looks grim, saying “We cannot currently add new DLC or Content to the game and it is unclear if this can ever happen. We can only perform maintenance, balance, QoL fixes and bug fixes.”

Responding to questions about the Uber Jason skin and Grendel Map, which appeared to be near completion in footage leaked prior to the announcement of the lawsuit, Keltner had this to say:

Finally, the founder and president talked about the possibility of a settlement that would allow future content to be released, although those hopeful for such a development likely won’t like what he had to say.

With all that doom and gloom, it can be easy to lose hope, however, the battle is far from over. Recently, Friday the 13th: The Game’s producer shared an encouraging statement. Apparently, Horror, Inc. is exploring options to exploit a loophole that may pave way for new Friday the 13th-related content.
